For my project I wanted to completely change how I study. I chose to use the book “A Mind for Numbers” to learn new strategies to achieve this goal because it seemed to go over every aspect of how to learn and do well in school and was even geared more towards science students like myself. Broadly speaking, I had two main takeaways from this book (although there were several other specific strategies that it went over). They are learning to form new habits and use them to your advantage and “chunking”, the process of how your brain learns, processes, and stores information and how to make these “chunks” strong so you are able to use them later. Guided by what the book said, I developed several strategies that worked well for me and kept track of these mainly by using a weekly/ daily planner and a time blocking planner.
Procrastination: Beat
For my final project, I read the book The Productivity Project by Chris Bailey and used the tips and strategies mentioned in the book to implement into my life. My goal for this project was to learn to manage my time better so that I could balance school, extracurricular activities as well as make time for myself as well as to beat procrastination. While reading the book a few strategies stood out to me that would help me to accomplish these goals; these being the rule of3 and allocating stricter time constraints on daily tasks and the 30 minute technology detox. For three weeks I sought out to implement these strategies and ultimately accomplish my goals.
The Great Habit Hack
This blog post begins with a small background about myself and what problems I have with my habits. It then goes into talking about the book I chose and why I chose it. I talk about a few specific things from the book and then I move onto my 2 strategies I got from the book and implemented into my life. I describe them and why I chose them and provided examples and pictures. I follow that up with my take away and some closing statements and recommendations.
Why Being “Meticulous” is not Wasted Effort
My course project is in a blog post format. It details my experiences in utilizing concepts such as peaking my productivity and living in my calendar as suggested in the book InstantFocus. I offer insight on how being more accountable of oneself can provide tremendous benefit in the accomplishment of goals. I discuss how my life was prior to not using these strategies, and howI feel it has changed for the better. I then give my takeaway, and recommend others to improve their own lives using the strategies I have.
