For my project I wanted to completely change how I study. I chose to use the book “A Mind for Numbers” to learn new strategies to achieve this goal because it seemed to go over every aspect of how to learn and do well in school and was even geared more towards science students like myself. Broadly speaking, I had two main takeaways from this book (although there were several other specific strategies that it went over). They are learning to form new habits and use them to your advantage and “chunking”, the process of how your brain learns, processes, and stores information and how to make these “chunks” strong so you are able to use them later. Guided by what the book said, I developed several strategies that worked well for me and kept track of these mainly by using a weekly/ daily planner and a time blocking planner.
Small Changes For The Greater Good
I incorporated 3 major ideas from the book into my daily routine. The objective was to help achieve my goal of attaining a B- average in my core classes. Through continued use, these strategies have had a positive effect. I have also learned that moderation is key to success of any new thing that you try to incorporate into your life.
Productivity at its Finest
How can we request for more time? Simply twenty-four hours a day is not enough. This is the reality of the issue. However, of course, each and every one of us has different goals and obstacles we must overcome and there are several ways to approach this.
Get it together! How to keep your life in order
In today’s climate as a student there are so many distractions and obstacles that sometimes, it gets overwhelming and we lose confidence and motivation to get things done. When this happens, we lose sight of our goals and we tend to pick up unhealthy habits. This project addresses these sources of stress and some ways we can stay on top of our stressors by practicing good habits. It also offers ways to stay organized so that we don’t give these stressors any possibility of decreasing our motivation and consequently, our success.
