The most important four strategies and ideas from my perspective
This semester is the first semester of my sophomore year, which is one of the crucial semesters of my college life. I want to do something great this semester. In this semester, I set two important goals for myself at the beginning of the semester. As I read this great book, <From college to Career>, I also made some modifications for my goals. Now my first goal is building up my resume and the positive attitude when preparing for my career. In the process of reading this book, I gained a lot of interesting and useful ideas. The ideas from my book have helped me the most are “Get Organized”, “Networking”, “Make over your Resume” and “Don’t Curb Your Enthusiasm”. This is because that these four important ideas give me a new vision of career and life.
The ideas from my book have helped me the most are “Get Organized”, “Networking”, “Make over your Resume” and “Don’t Curb Your Enthusiasm”. [Text Wrapping Break]
Get Organized
I am not really an organized person before, and sometimes I miss something very important. However, the method “Create a contact database system” is very useful, and I made the contact in the Excel spreadsheet. I can document how I apply content from the book to my life by summarized them when I meet the similar circumstance in my life, such as trying to find internships on LinkedIn and Hand Shake. For personal reasons, I don’t want to share the screenshot here because I consider it as my privacy. If you are interested in this method, feel free to contact with me and we can talk about it.
Networking
I have learnt the networking skills from the book and have been trying to carry out them when I meet some professional people, especially in the field related to finance, which is the field I would like to intern. However, due to the reasons that my schedule is a little tight this semester, and also the reason that I am only a sophomore student who is not very experienced, I didn’t attend so many events that I wished. I met some people working in J.P. Morgan Chase during an activity this semester, and I added their contact information.
Make over your Resume
One of the ideas is “Make over your Resume”, which is really crucial for me to complete my goals. Resume is the most important part in finding an internship or a job. I went to the Fisher Global office and got a lot of useful pieces of advice on revising my Resume. I adjusted the format and some content of it.
Don’t Curb Your Enthusiasm
Passion is the important element in our life. They are often simple, but they are overwhelmingly strong. It is very common for us to meet difficulties, but the passion can encourage us to move forward. I also changed my first goal after the last check in. Now my first goal is building up my resume and the positive attitude when preparing for my career. I really love this sentence in the book: “Everyone can achieve their wildest, most incredible career dreams.”
Additional interesting part: my experience about what I gained through this task
Now I would like to share my own experience. From my perspective, I gained a lot through this task of reading the book I chose. In the past, I had no idea of what to do in the future. To be more accurate, I knew what I should do, but didn’t know how to achieve my goals. After I started reading this book, I learnt a lot of strategies and skills from this book. For example, I had many resumes before my sophomore year; however, they were not very professional. In addition, as I mentioned before, I am not really an organized person before reading this book, and sometimes I miss something very important. However, the method “Create a contact database system” is very useful, and I made the contact in the Excel spreadsheet, which is a very useful strategy for the next strategy of networking. More importantly, I sometimes feel very stressed this semester, and I sometimes feel lack of motivation. The idea of “Don’t Curb Your Enthusiasm” is also responding to the concept of motivation, which is an important concept in our course. I know that it is very common for us to meet difficulties, but the passion can encourage us to move forward.
